Renowned Victorian printer, Fishprint, is a finalist in the savewater! awards, which recognise and reward outstanding achievement in water conservation.
Fishprint is recognised in the ‘service providers’ category for its use of a “waterless” printing process. In use since 2005 the waterless offset totally eliminates the need for water in the press, saving 46,000 litres of water a year.
Turning off the water to the press saves 22,000 litres a year and recycling the printing plate wash water for the developing processor saves a further 24,000 litres.
Through its environmental initiatives, Fishprint has achieved Australia’s highest level of environmental accreditation: Good Environmental Choice Australia accreditation — ISO 14024.
Waterless printing has other benefits too, eliminating toxic air emissions from dampening-related volatile organic compounds (VOCs), common in standard printing presses.
The savewater! awards are an initiative of the savewater! Alliance Inc, an alliance of metropolitan and regional water businesses from Victoria and New South Wales.
Winners will be announced at the Plaza Ballroom, Melbourne on March 23, 2007, following World Water Day.
