Paper Round was established in 2006 by key members of the Office Paper and Print industry to address concerns on the quantity of office paper from the commercial and industrial sector not being recovered or recycled.

Our mission is to investigate, influence and inform the debate on the use and recovery of paper, and support the development of improved recovery, recycling and alternative use technologies, while promoting the responsible use of paper as a communication medium.

We will achieve our mission through three key initiatives:

  1. Improved data collection on the use and disposal of office paper in the Commercial & Industrial sector. Australian statistics on paper waste are limited in this sector, and often ambiguous. Accurate data is the basis for on-going benchmarking activity and key to project investment planning.
  2. Education of users and consumers of paper products about product choices — recycled versus virgin fibre, appropriate use, and disposal of paper after use. Consumer understanding is critical to improving the quantity and quality of office paper available for recycling. Today, many tonnes of office papers are disposed of in a manner that minimises the opportunity for subsequent use. Improving the quality of waste streams will have a direct impact in maximising the quantity able to be reused.
  3. Identifying key processes and development projects that have the potential to impact the level of waste paper recovery, and reduce quantities going to landfill. Through its membership base, Paper Round is well placed to source data on international best practice and to help facilitate commercially sustainable projects with the relevant stakeholders, including all levels of Government.
